Welcome From The Dean

Gregory Dudley

Welcome to the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) at the University of Houston, where it is my privilege to serve as dean. At NSM, we are driven by curiosity, grounded in discovery, and committed to empowering students and faculty to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Our college is home to world-class faculty and talented students pursuing excellence across the fields of biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, earth and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, and physics. We provide a rigorous and supportive environment that equips our graduates for success in their chosen careers while advancing knowledge through research and scholarship.

As I begin my first year at UH, I am energized by the opportunity to serve this vibrant and ambitious community. Throughout my career, I have worked to foster environments where students thrive, faculty excel, and research drives innovation and societal impact. Prior to joining UH, I served as a department chair, distinguished professor, and National Science Foundation program director, overseeing major programs that support cutting-edge research in chemistry and beyond. I understand how science can transform lives. I am committed to ensuring that NSM continues to contribute to the university’s mission as a leading research institution while preparing students to lead in a data-driven, technology-rich world.

At NSM, we recognize that student success begins with access to exceptional education, mentorship, and research opportunities. Our academic programs provide a strong foundation for innovation and lifelong learning. Our faculty engage students in meaningful research, problem-solving, and experiential learning opportunities while helping them prepare for current and future career pathways in Houston and beyond.

We are equally committed to high-impact research addressing real-world challenges, from energy, sustainability, and health to artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. We have seen remarkable growth in research funding and output. NSM is a key contributor to the growing innovation ecosystem of Houston, one of the most diverse and economically vibrant cities in the nation, and we are uniquely positioned to help solve complex problems at the intersection of science, technology, and society. Our college is proud to collaborate with local industries, government agencies, and community organizations to drive innovation that benefits our region and beyond. We will build on this momentum, guided by UH’s core values of innovation, collaboration, and resilience.

I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our programs, faculty, research initiatives, and the many opportunities available within the college. Whether you are a prospective student, a research collaborator, or a member of the broader Houston community, we welcome your engagement with NSM.

Together, we can push the boundaries of discovery, fuel regional and global progress, and prepare the next generation of scientific leaders and innovators.

Go Coogs!
