Office of Community Engagement

Mission

The Honors College at the 探花视频 engages with what matters, from great books,
challenging ideas, and creative expression to transformational technology and pressing civic and
social issues. The College’s Office of Community Engagement (OCE) pursues community engaged
opportunities, building partnerships which allow students to work collaboratively to address
challenges that affect us all, including access to quality healthcare, education, housing,
employment, and a safe environment. The OCE is committed to mutual respect and building a
deeper understanding of the different strengths and capacities our students and our community
partners bring to their work. The OCE situates our expertise, data, research, and teaching as
responsive to their goals and allows innovative projects to emerge within the guiding vision of those
community partnerships.

Approach

The Office of Community Engagement models the engagement we hope to promote at the Honors
College. We consider our activities, programming, events, and productivity as fluidly responding to
the questions and motivations which open up pathways for a diverse modes of community
engagement. Everyone in our College community is invited to discuss how they can use their
talents and commitment to co-create meaningful experiences for our students within our local
context. The role of the office will be to channel this expertise and creativity in the way that most
authentically captures our intersecting community’s shared vision for positive growth. Whether it is
a one-time event, a sustained research and service project, a pedagogical practice, or a capacity-
building partnership, our approach will be inclusive and connective.
