Brunel, in partnership with British Council, is proud to offer five fully funded scholarships for female students from Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Viet Nam as part of the British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM.

This scholarship is only available to full-time international students and will only be paid once for each eligible level of study, subject to meeting progression requirements.

Award details

Value: The Scholarship is fully funded and covers:

· IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid test of English)

· Visa and Insurance/ NHS surcharge cost

· Child allowance (where applicable)

Application process:

Step 1: Applicants should apply for their chosen programme (see eligible programmes below) in the usual way, via UCAS or via the

Step 2: To be considered for the scholarship applicants must complete a , applicants will be required to explain why they would be a suitable recipient of the Scholarship.

Deadlines: Applications must be submitted by 11:59pm (UK local time) on Friday, 11 April 2025. Late applicants cannot be accepted.

This is a British Council funded scholarship administered by Brunel University of London, as such information contained in the application will be shared with the British Council.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM an applicant must:

  • Apply for and fulfil the entry criteria for admission to the following 1-year full-time courses:
  • Be in receipt of an offer to study on one of the above programmes by starting in September 2025.
  • Have been assessed by Brunel University of London as an international student for tuition fee purposes. Applicants who are unsure of their fee status should note Brunel uses the information you have provided in your application form to assess your fee status against regulations set by the UK government. For information on these regulations please visit the independent organisation
  • Applicants must be nationals and residents of the eligible countries:
    • Malaysia
    • Myanmar
    • Philippines, or
    • Viet Nam
  • Be in receipt of an Academic Unconditional Firm offer of place on one of the above courses by 30 June 2025.
  • Demonstrate a need for financial support.
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable them to gain access onto one of the eligible Brunel MSc courses.
  • Attain the level of English required for the chosen postgraduate course at a UK university.
  • Demonstrate they are active in the field with work experience or a proven interest in their subject area.
  • Willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating and returning to home country.
  • Agree that personal data can be shared with the British Council as a condition of applying for the scholarship.
  • Be willing to engage as a committed British Council scholarship alumni.
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship award has ended.

2.2 Those applicants not eligible for these Scholarships

  • Applicants NOT classed as Overseas for fees purposes.
  • Applicants who hold dual citizenship.
  • Applicants holding an offer on a course other than a course specified above.
  • Applicants who will NOT commence their course in September 2023- applicants holding offers for deferred entry must apply for scholarships in the month and year they intend to start their course and not in the year of their course application.
  • Undergraduate applicants entering a course at any level.
  • Applicants applying for part time, distance learning or online version of the above courses.
  • An employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office).
  • An employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM – eligible countries.
  • Any applicant currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards a study programme in the UK from any other source.
  • Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary.

*Relatives are defined as parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or stepchildren, spouse, civil partner or unmarried partner (where the couple have been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).

Outcome of awards

The successful candidates will be notified by email no later than 27 June 2025. If you have not heard from us by this date, please assume you have been unsuccessful in your application.
