Valenti Student Showcase: A Night of Celebration and Networking

On March 20, the Valenti School of Communication, in collaboration with University Career Services and the Bauer College of Business, hosted the Communication & Marketing Career Mixer, offering students and alumni a prime opportunity to connect with top employers.

Held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the event welcomed students from all majors, with a special focus on those studying Communications, Marketing and Digital Media. Representatives from a variety of industries—including Arts, Business, Media and Non-profit & Government sectors—attended to network with potential candidates and discuss job openings.

The companies presented included Alta Marketing, Clearpoint, Dell Inc., Enterprise Mobility, Frontier Forklifts & Service Inc., Hollaway Enviorment & Communication Services Inc., MRU Instruments Inc., PGAL, RAKI Computers, SMPS Houston, Southwestern Advantage, Terracon Consultants, Texas A&M University, The Travelers Companies Inc. and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.

"This mixer is a dynamic way for our students to engage directly with employers who are eager to recruit UH talent," said Dr. Jennifer Vardeman, Director of the Valenti School of Communication. "It’s a key part of our mission to bridge the gap between academic preparation and professional success."

Students had the chance to submit résumés, participate in on-the-spot interviews and build connections with hiring managers. Many left the event with leads on internships, entry-level positions and networking opportunities.

“There are opportunities here for both of my majors, and it was a great chance to network so I can hopefully get an internship,” said media production and marketing junior Maritza Sanchez. “I talked to representatives from Southwestern Advantage, and they have a good internship program there, so I’m hopeful.”

The Communication & Marketing Career Mixer continues to be a highlight of UH’s career development initiatives, reinforcing the university’s commitment to student success beyond the classroom.

“These types of events are great because it can be difficult to find networking opportunities,” said management and information systems junior Carolina Garcia. “This career mixer is the perfect opportunity to find those connections.”
